Buffalo's official community events calendar for mid-July went live on the city website Sunday with 62 listings for the week of July 13 through 19.

The update arrives as families seek local options during a stretch of national and international headlines that have kept many residents close to home. Organizers at the Buffalo Office of Neighborhoods compiled the list after receiving submissions from 28 groups, a 12 percent increase over the same period last year.

Two standout entries include the weekly farmers market on Niagara Street in the West Side that opens at 8 a.m. Saturday and the Allentown Art Walk along Allen Street that runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. the same day. The market offers produce from 14 local farms while the art walk features 30 vendors set up between Elmwood Avenue and Delaware Avenue.

Neighborhood Highlights

North Buffalo listings center on the Hertel Avenue block party scheduled for 4 p.m. Friday with live music from the band Lake Effect and a kids area run by the North Buffalo Community Center. South Buffalo adds a free concert at South Park on Sunday evening featuring the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra's brass quintet, with gates opening at 5:30 p.m. Both events require no tickets.

City data shows 4,200 people attended similar neighborhood events in June, according to figures released by the Office of Neighborhoods last week. Average per-person spending at those gatherings reached $9.50 on food and crafts, down from $11.25 in May.

Practical Tips for Attendees

Residents planning to visit multiple sites should note that parking on side streets near the West Side market fills by 9 a.m. on Saturdays. The calendar recommends using the NFTA bus route 5 that stops directly at Niagara Street and Connecticut Street. For the Allen Street art walk, organizers advise arriving before noon to avoid crowds that peaked at 2,800 last month.

The full calendar is posted at buffalo.ny.gov/events and will receive daily updates through the end of the month. Printed copies are available at the downtown library branch on Washington Street and at the North Park branch on Hertel Avenue.
